Filming: day two

Filming: day two

Today, myself and Keeley completed the final part of our filming process. We gathered two of our friends in order to help us film for our last character and we were really pleased with how our last filming session turned out. We filmed in two locations within my house; my bedroom and my kitchen, both were easily accessible which made filming easier. Myself and Keeley were both aware of the props that we needed when it came to filming, which helped with the organisation when it came to getting them together.

The props that we needed were:
1. wine glasses
2. a bottle of wine
3. an eye mask
4. a blanket
5. a pair of slippers
all of which were easy for us to access when filming.

Overall, I don't feel that filming for this character could have gone any better; myself and Keeley were both organised and contributed equally to the filming process. I am now excited to edit our footage and see how creative we can be with all of our footage combined.

Filming day one: new project

Our first day of filming for our new music video went extremely well and we are already happier and more positive regarding our footage.
The filming process was more challenging and time consuming this time as there were many different costume changes involved, whereas our protagonist in our last music video wore the same outfit throughout. Also, a greater number of props were needed throughout filming due to the fact that we were focusing on three different characters as opposed to one.
The props that we needed included:
1. A stephen king novel
2. A pair of earphones
3. A laptop
4. A phone
5. A bottle of wine
6. A notebook and various textbooks
7. Lipstick
8. A mirror
9. A blanket
10. A mug of tea
and various others. This was a big leap from filming our first video, where only 6 props were needed throughout the entirity.

Equipment: Whilst planning our second music video, we made the decision to use a proffesional camera to record on rather than an iPhone. Although the footage from our iPhone was adequiate, we thought it was important to strive for professional and polished footage when filming for our second video. It was important to try and create this video to the best of our ability in every way possible after not being happy with the first video that we created. We began looking at ways to improve the standard, and the first one we thought of was filming on a professional camera.

We are yet to film our third character (the popular girl) as more characters are needed within her story. We are planning to gather some friends and get this filmed soon so we can throw ourselves into the editing process with all of our needed footage.

Change of song

Myself and Keeley have decided to go in a different direction with our music video, after discovering that we aren't happy with our current song and the way in which our video flows. We feel that both our song and our video are too slow-paced to really engage the viewer, therefore, we have decided to film a new video to the song "homemade dynamite" - also by Lorde. This song is much more exciting and has a fast-paced beat throughout which will really lend to our idea of making a fast-paced, exciting music video with lots of quick and snappy shots.

We decided to choose another song by Lorde for our new music video as we both admire her as an artist and have already carried out our research on Lorde as an artist and her image. Our knowledge on Lorde's musical style will help us to create a video in keeping with her artistic and creative tone.

The narrative for our new music video homemade dynamite centres around three different character types, all played by the same girl - a popular girl, a goth and a geek.
The message that we are trying to convey within this narrative is that we all have aspects of different personalities within ourselves - we aim to show this by selecting the same girl to play all three character types.

We are excited to begin filming with new ideas in mind and are hopeful that our new song choice will allow us to create an exciting and engaging music video.

First cut feeback

Today we presented our first cut of liabiltity to our peers, we recieved both positive and negative feedback today.

Some of the positive points were that our narrative fitted the tone of our song, one of our peers also commented that she liked some of the slow-motion shots that we included as she felt that they helped to reflect the sombre, slow tone of the song.

However, many of our peers informed us that the music video almost dragged and wasn't extremely engaging or interesting to watch; this is something that we were concerned about before recieving our feedback, therefore, this confirmed our worry that our music video just doesn't grip the viewer.

Another comment made was that the shot of the hands on the piano at the begining of the music video didn't quite flow in time with the music.

A few of our peers disliked the ending of our narrative as they were hoping for a plot twist or some light at the end of the tunnel, they felt that our ending was too morbid and deterministic.

Myself and Keeley shall try to salvage our product based on these feedback points, we are possibly considering trying a new song entirely as we feel that the slow and sombre nature of liability doesn't lend itself to the kind of exciting and gripping video that we are looking to create.

Editing update

Today myself and Keeley have begun to edit again but with the our improved shots that we re-filmed. Although we are happier with the shots that we have re-filmed, we still are unhappy with our music video on the whole as we believe it doesn't really engage or grip the viewer, which will ultimately lead to a boring music video. We believe that it isn't engaging due to the slow and depressive nature of the song, we have built our narrative to reflect this nature, but this has consequently led to a video that we aren't happy with, we believe that if we were to create our video to a different song, it would be easier to reach our full potential and compose a more creative and exciting video.
